“I've
started a new blog” is a phrase my friends do not like hearing from
me. It does not bode well for them. It certainly doesn't bode well
for myself.
However,
circumstances have suggested that now is the time to start a new one.
I've had seven blogs in the past nine years but I have a good feeling
about this one, and good feelings can be valuable in a famine of
happiness. Let me give you a little explanation of who I am and what
this is- I am Ruby, grad student, oenophile, sartorialist (I think
from the last two you can probably tell I was an English
undergraduate). What this blog is...it's a way of making myself both
productive and accountable. I will be posting hopefully 365 times for
one year, posting as many entries as I can now to get some momentum,
and it will be a collection of thoughts, essays, poems I've penned in
the past (I no longer wax poetic), extracts from books I'm working on
(or abandoned), fiction I've written already.
[Hopefully
this entry is not indicative of the quality of the blog as a whole]
One
note about the name: It comes from a line in the great NBC TV series
“Hannibal”
Dr.
Hannibal Lecter: What you need is a way out of dark places when Jack
sends you there.
Will
Graham: Last time Jack sent me into a dark place, I brought something
back...
